DyceBot Quick Info Sheet

We've put together a new Dice Rolling "Bot" for your use in the Palladium Megaverse of Chat Rooms. Since it's only a test version, we're not guaranteeing anything about its ability to run smoothly, but it should work pretty well.

Because of the nature of Bots in general and their interaction with DigiChat, we have no home for the Bots and they must be "launched" on an as-needed basis.

Here's where you come in. If you want a Dice Rolling Bot for your game in one of the Chat Rooms, it's your responsibility to run it. But it's pretty simple really.

• 1. Go to http://www.palladium-megaverse.com/chatrooms/DyceBot.jar and download the program to your machine. Here's a picture of it downloaded onto my Windows 2000 desktop.
  
• 2.Of course, you need to have java installed on your machine, but if you do it should be as simple as clicking on it to start it up. Here's what shows up when I right click on it and examine the properties of it.
  
  Notice how small it is? (35K).
• 3.Then just double click on the program to run it. This is what it should look like when you start it.
  
• 4.Click on the button named the same as the room you want the Bot to run in. Here I've just clicked on the SGR2 button to start a Bot over there.
  
• 5. Now I can go over to SGR2, and look to see that the Bot is there (but it's really invisible. I can only see him there 'cause I'm special).
  
• 6. Now I issue the command "/d h" to get help from the Bot, and find out how it works.
  
• 7. When you're done with the Bot, just click on the red Exit button.
• 8. Oh... there is a bug in the code right now for calculating rolls. It doesn't do minus correctly when the result is less than zero. Just try rolling a 1D20-10 and see if you don't get something greater than 10 once in a while.

That's it. If you try it and like it, fine. If you don't like it or have problems with it, (especially if you find and bugs like the one above) go to the help desk, and let the webmaster what the problem is.
